Seamaster 200M Crown Thread

Hi all, a friend has an Omega 200M and the crown no longer locks down.  I have had a quick look through Google and it appears the thread wearing/stripping is a common fault, has anyone on here carried out the same repair?  I'm wonderering whether to take it on for him or if it is better to send it away!  I am fairly proficient (very with larger scale mechanics , not so much experience with watches but do have a half decent tool kit) as have heard mixed reviews on the "difficulty level".

Thanks, TC

Rattling movement

Hi

just wondering if anyone has a way of fixing a movement that rattles - the securing screw that keeps the movement in place inside the case screws in fine. but the movement still moves slightly, and I can't find a way to stop it.  This doesn't effect the watch's performance.  I believe it is not the original case, hence the problem.   I want to sell it but I can't sell it the way it is

Anyone else had this problem and has a means of rectifying it?

    Thank you

Watch parts

Good afternoon

I am new to this forum.  My father was an amateur watch maker who passed away last year leaving some watch making equipment and parts.

Is anyone able to assist with selling this or point us to a genuine buyer who could help? I don’t know what all the bits and pieces are.  I appreciate more details and photos would have to be provided.

Any advice gratefully received!

Rolex Rebberg Balance Staff Query

Hi Everyone!

Just trying to get some information on a Rolex Rebberg movement i am currently working on. The balance staff is broken and dont know if there is a replacement for these. The movement was apparently made by Aegler for Rolex, mine is the large gents version at approx 28.5mm in diameter or 13 ligne, and is the 7 jewel version with sub seconds hand

Some say this is the same company as Aegler Michel which Ronda does list a number for in their old book

Had a reply from one individual that they never made spares for these movements and my best bet is to obtain a second hand movement with a good balance in.

Just wondered what the consensus of opinion was on here.........

Of course if anyone has a spare movement / balance / staff they wish to sell.....

Thanks for looking........... :rltrlt:

Skyliner cal402

Hi, This is my first post so, sorry if I don't use the correct protocols. I've recently received a 1966 Seiko Skyliner Cal.402.The lens was cracked and it's case back has several scratches. The dial is silver with no numbers or batons, and has twelve lines emanating from the centre to indicate the hours. It's a round dial but the case is square-ish.  I've disassembled the movement, cleaned it and reassembled it. Trouble is, the Timegrapher shows some fairly eratic results. Through several positions, the rate can be anything between -34 to +15 and the amplitude ranges between 178° and 230°. The beat error is 0.4 ms and it runs at 18000 bph.

I'm very new to horology and I love it, so I'm very wet behind the ears! The rebuild went well so I'm thinking that I have a problem with the balance setting. I'm researching it at the moment.  I wondered if anyone could give me the lift angle for it? I've searched a lot of websites, but the cal402 doesn't show up.  It's very thin as well, which is quite attractive. The bracelet needs replacing, although there's nothing physically wrong with it, it could do with updating.  I'll try and upload some photographs in the near future. Is this entry too long? Do you have any tips please? I hope to follow the forum more frequently than of late and hope to hear from one or two enthusiasts shortly.  Best regards, Phil

A Bits Dropped Off My Speed Master Bracelet Clasp!

It's hard to describe, but essentially its like a tiny steel post that that the Clasp spring binds around.

It's just dropped off and is lost. There is a hole in the bracelet fastener where I assume is has become unscrewed perhaps.

Can this item be replaced without buying an entire new clasp?

Thanks

Hi guys

I was just wondering if there is a way repairing hairline cracks on dials?   Is there a paste or paint or something on them lines to do this or is it just something watchmakers just have to put up with?

Bracelet wear.

I'm looking to replace this pin in the clasp. I know the pictures aren't brilliant but it shows the elongation of the hole in the clasp, and the pin itself will be worn as well.    I'm assuming the pin is a press fit in the curved portion. Obviously a new pin would help, but that still leaves the elongation.   If I was to open up the worn hole, on the correct centre position, could I use a spring bar.    The bar would of course need oversize ends but I don't know if they available.

This is now 30 years old and has been worn every day, but I don't want to fork out for a new bracelet.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. large.20200810_095916.jpg.91f2be640e6e11185228b75c50c04557.jpglarge.Screenshot_20200810-095949_Gallery.jpg.04726cdd9ef0136e75bef752076b1685.jpglarge.Screenshot_20200810-100629_Gallery.jpg.9c70aa04a26b331d35e970c352d8fb1e.jpg

Bulova precisionist quartz to automatic conversion

$

Hi All,

My second post and I'm trying to put things on here that might prove useful to others. Please bear in mind, I am an amateur who likes experimenting and I know my techniques won't be looked on favourably by those who pride fine matchmaking!

Worth me explaining that I have quite a few bulova precisionist watches and I have repaired quite a few. Given the cost of a replacement quartz precisionist movement from Bulova costs £100+ and they dont sell individual parts, it usually makes sense to just source a used watch on ebay, in not great cosmetic condition.

As a result, I have fixed about four watches using two "scrappers", which leaves me with two knackered watches (the coil on both + a number of other broken parts).

I hate seeing a broken watch so I thought I would try and source a cheap quartz to put in . The only problem is that I couldn't find any wife enough so that the date window fitted.

Therefore, I thought about a mechanical movement, which would have the bonus of a near sweeping seconds hand. Could not find a mechanical with the right dimensions.

Only movement that I found looked to be a good width was an NH36 (day/date). The day would be hidden by the dial. You will also need hands that fit the nh36 (the bulova ones won't fit)

Before I say all of what you need to do, it is worth noting that I had 2 scrappers under reference: 98b140 and 96G131.

It is easy to rule one of these models out as the nh36 movement is too deep for the 98b140 (and similar variants).

The same is actually true for the 96g13q and similar variants, but I'll explain how to get round this.

First of all, remove your old movement, and grind off your dial feet - annoyingly they are close to fitting the NH36, but just off a little.

Next you need to bore out the hole in the centre of your dial, by literally the fines amount .2mm maybe.

You need to remove the rotor from your NH36 - that's right, this is going to be manual wound only - not an issue for me as I will use in rotation in my collection, but a pain if you want this to be a daily with the same convenience of the outgoing quartz.

Next you need to get out your dremel out.

Even without the rotor on, the movement is too deep, so unless you have a cnc lathe to skim some metal off, you need to grind the centre of the inside of the case back to accommodate the protruding part of the movement. You are going to have to eye ball how much to grind out. I used a spherical polishing stone attachment. You may also need to take the surrounding metal down to the same level about 1cm out from the centre point all around.

The hardest bit for me to do (psychologically speaking) was to grind the thread off the winding stem tube - yep, no more water activities!

Next position your dial and lay out some double sided tape around the outside plastic rim of your nh36. And stick to your dial - say hello to your new "dial feet"!

Install your hands, and cut stem to fit. And tweak - which I had to a lot. The tweaking was mainly going back and grinding more metal off the case back as if it was tightened on too much it put stress on the movement and stopped it working (yes I know I've probably done the movement some damage!).

I have it working and despite all the hacking and bodging I'm actually quite happy with it after all, I was guessing on all of this, and could not find anyone else attempting this (why would they! Surely not worth the effort and cost).

My main aim of this post is to help someone considering this, realise that it's really not viable, but if you do want to do it, it is possible for an amateur to achieve.

With regards to the 98b140, I've decided that seen as the nh36 is too deep for the case, I will just use the case and have ordered a new sterile dial from china and a hand wound chinese movement, which should fit.

Happy to answer any questions, if you are seriously considering this!

Refitting really tight case back with a press.

The case back was really tight to get off. In fact for me it was the tightest of all tight case backs.

Question is, having tried my usual methods, I'm going to have to use my press to try and refit it but the watch has a rotating bezel on the front, so is it safe to press against the bezel or should I remove it bearing in mind I'm going to have to use a lot of pressure?

Thanks.

Aqua terra sticking at 9

large.watch.png.d9ccf6ed77fde31310c528b6d692e7d4.png

Morning all,

Noticed a few days ago that my Aqua Terra is sticking at 9 o'clock. The minute and second hands work well and the watch doesn't stop. It's due a service (Six years old) but felt it wouldn't be required till now as the watch gets very little wrist time. I've read on other forums that this is a fairy common issue, that it's likely to require a new hour wheel and that it may be as a result of changing the time using the quick change hour wheel. I absolutely use this function on almost every time I wear the watch as the date is miles out, owing to it sitting in the safe for weeks on end. Having said that, if this is a fault, would Omega fix gratis? (Think I already know the answer to that one! :nono:) When I get the inevitable answer, I'll be looking for a reputable indie service. Can anyone recommend from previous use? Reading that thewatchguy is very good but a lengthy wait is more than likely.

Hope this finds you all well

Mike
