Watchmakers lathe forum

Hi all

As this is a watch forum I would have thought there would have been a watchmakers lathe forum because although I only do clocks I can’t be the only person to have a watchmakers lathe, unless I am missing something.

Winding stem for Girard Perregaux Seahawk

Hi, I have a Girard Perregaux Seahawk with no winder. Any ideas what winder I need and where I can get one from please? The only numbers on movement are 091-487.

Second issue is trying to find a nice open ended leather strap for a 1945 Rolex. It seems the nicer ones have an end that glues together. Are these secure enough for an expensive watch? I'm a bit nervous of this type and prefer the clip type.

Any help with either will be gratefully received. Thank you.

I am struggling to find a miyota 5y20e mechanism to replace a defective one in a Ladies Rotary watch. I am just wondering if there is an alternative mechanism that might fit the bill.

Kindest Regards,

How to tighten the cannon pinion on a Timex Model 25 wrist watch movement with day/date dial?  The exploded view in the manual lists canon pinion assembly and I've read mention of a friction pinion.  Is this the source of the hand slipping problem?

'Services' Watch Crystal Type And Size Help (pics and dimensions inside)

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone could help an idiot out! I'm a newbie and just getting into the hobbie. I've successfully serviced and repaired a couple of old British 'Services' movements. And now I'm getting around to ordering crystals and I'm flummoxed!

It appears to be a tension ring domed acrylic crystal. But I'm not too sure. The chrome ring is on the inside of the crystal. The crystal is 30mm in diameter, 4mm high, and the side walls are 2mm. It's domed, but doesn't seem to be a high dome? And the watch case opening doesn't seem to have any indents in the side wall, just straight down to the ledge. Oh and I'm not fussed about the bubble/date window. They don't appear to have come with it originally anyway.

Had a scour of cousins parts list and I just wound up being more confused than when I started :D, standard vs domed vs high domed.. 'High domed chrome ring' vs 'Tension ring armoured' and so on..

Here's a link to some pics of the crystal/case:

Thankyou for any replies!

Citizen Crystron Quartz Movement Repair

I acquired this watch in a mixed bag and it's one of the more interesting ones, however it doesn't work. I can't find any information on the movement (8630A) so it seems a replacement isn't going to be easy to find, so I thought how about having a go at repairing it? It's actually in good nick so worth a try, and nothing to lose.

A faint pulse registers on one of those tester boxes and the coil looks ok (wrapped in plastic helps I guess) but what now? I have an analogue multimeter, steady hands and a feeling I might be a bit mad to even attempt this, especially as I've never done it before...

Cheers!

Also is there a way of easily ensuring i havent also damaged the movement?

Hi all hope everyone staying safe

well I have been looking for a Multifix M80 motor and finally found one in Germany, I checked with him that it was in good condition and he said it was in top condition so I paid top money for it, well it turned up today and the bearings have gone Very annoying, have taken it to the local motor repair shop and it’s going to cost £75 to replace them, have emailed seller but we will see if and what he has to say if I don’t get any joy there is always PayPal to hopefully help.

Hi all

I have a collection of antique pocket watches some of which require a new crystal. As I have the appropriate press to do the job, I am finding it difficult to find anywhere to buy them on the internet other than Canada and the USA

Anyone know somewhere I can go to buy them in the UK?

Omega Parts 1012

Hello,

I am doing repair on an Omega 1012 movement. One of the screws had come out while the case was closed and was rolling round, eventually locking itself into one of the gears. A couple gears need to be replaced, in addition to normal things like the mainspring.

Does anyone know where to get parts for a movement like this. Of course, I searched ebay first and I see some used parts, but I would prefer unused parts, as this is for a paying client. In particular, I would like to be sure that the mainspring is unused.

Please let me know of any places that might have appropriate parts.
Thanks so much for your help.

Longines caseback removal

I was given a box of watches by my mam who got them from a friend that does not have a use for them

IMG_20200716_120754.thumb.jpg.4c6757eddcfca05a13df595f508e9db4.jpg

Imagine my surprise when amongst them was a Longines Conquest

IMG_20200715_171555.thumb.jpg.54028c136fb4e5edc85a886a4f5c83d2.jpg

I tried to wind it up but think it was fully wound and the crown was stiff when trying to pull it out to , I managed to get the crown out and set the time and gave the watch a light tap and shake and the secondhand started to move  it has happily been ticking away since last night and keeping good time

The watch itself is a bit gruddy with dna on it so I want to remove the caseback and movement and put the case into my ultrasonic . Question is this is the caseback a screw type or a pop off ? Any advice and info greatly appreciated
